Overview

Saigon Secret Vietnamese Cuisine, tucked upstairs at Simply Delicious on Main Street in Vancouver, is a quietly compelling spot for anyone craving authentic Vietnamese flavors with a welcoming yet unpretentious vibe. While its unassuming location above the storefront might initially make it easy to miss, this hidden gem rewards those who seek it out with hearty portions and well-crafted dishes that feel both classic and comforting.

The heart of Saigon Secret lies in its pho—an essential Vietnamese noodle soup that shines here with generous servings of meat and a broth that strikes a balance between familiar warmth and satisfying depth. Whether you opt for the oxtail pho rich with tender cuts or the rare beef offering, the broth is far from bland. Many reviewers highlight the option to enhance flavors with fresh lime, sriracha, and hoisin sauce, transforming it into a deeply satisfying bowl that rivals more renowned pho establishments. Notably, the attention to freshness and portion size sets it apart, making every serving feel like a full, nourishing meal.

Beyond pho, the restaurant offers a variety of starters that showcase textures and balanced flavors—take their fresh salad rolls, for instance. The shrimp salad rolls stand out, featuring deep-fried shrimp wrapped in crisp, verdant greens and herbs, delivering a delightful contrast between crunchy and fresh. Pork salad rolls provide a richer, fattier counterpoint, both complemented by a distinctive sauce free from peanuts, making the experience accessible to more diners.

The menu also thoughtfully caters to vegetarians with options like their spicy tofu on rice and vegetarian pho. Customers praise these dishes for being flavorful and filling, which speaks to the kitchen’s versatile approach that respects diverse dietary preferences without compromising on authenticity or satisfaction.

The space and overall experience are modest but efficient. It’s important to note that the upstairs location requires climbing stairs, posing a limitation for wheelchair access. Yet for those able to make the ascent, the late hours and multi-cuisine options—Vietnamese classics alongside some sushi and Japanese dishes—offer convenience alongside variety.

Saigon Secret Vietnamese Cuisine clearly targets diners who seek an unpretentious yet flavorful meal, whether they are craving a comforting bowl of pho, a quick vegetarian fix, or a light appetizer. Its balance of genuine Vietnamese flavors, generous portions, and a touch of culinary creativity make it a hidden staple for Vancouver’s Main Street crowd and beyond. If you appreciate substance over spectacle and value dishes prepared with care and authenticity, this is a place worth discovering.

Leaving 5 stars because it’s certainly better then it’s current rating! I was worried because I saw these reviews after ordering but I can’t understand why people would be that negative, when it is pretty much your safe standard pho joint. I ordered on Uber eats and got the oxtail pho, pork salad rolls and shrimp salad rolls, for the price I wasn’t expecting such large portions. Broth was standard, definitely not completely flavourless and terrible like the reviews suggested, and they give you sooo much meat!! Like I was shocked. I recommend adding in the sriracha and hoisin sauce as well as the fresh lime, and then it’s just as good as any other broth. You get two full sized salad rolls in an order which is rare these days, pork one is fatty but also delicious but the shrimp one is the star. The shrimp was deep fried which I’ve never had in a salad roll and still super crispy! However both rolls are stacked with a ton of fresh veggies which balanced the more indulgent meats and the sauce was nice too. Give it a try

This review is strictly based on the food since I ordered the food each time and have never been inside the restaurant. We always order their Spicy Tofu On Rice dish and we love it each time. It's a very simple yet flavorful vegetarian dish that keeps us satisfied and full for a long time.

Ordered the vegetarian Pho from here on door dash. I ordered super late and felt really bad but I had such a bad day and needed Pho to cheer me up. I was scared cause this isn’t my regular place and I get pho often. It came super well packed and fresh I wasn’t expecting it to be so fresh because they were closing so soon. This will now be my go to spot. The Pho has so much veg and the tofu was super good, I got extra hoisin and it was sooo good. Definitely an underrated spot.

Not accessible for wheelchairs because there's a big staircase at the front door. The sign outside reads "Simply Delicious", but you have the right place, just go up the stairs. This place is open late and on top of selling Vietnamese food, they also serve sushi and other Japanese food.
